In particular, the northern section from Eferding to Aschach has a high passenger potential, which can be well exploited, especially with through LILO trains to Linz. However, the route would have to be electrified, some stops relocated or new ones created and the route on the freight track extended to Grünauerstraße.
The transfer point to the buses should be set up there.
Although this project has been talked about for years, the politicians in the Eferding area have only expanded the roads generously, which means that a lot of road traffic has been newly created, but the railways have been reduced. The money needed for the railways was carelessly “squandered” on the roads. The cost argument (so expensive, we can’t afford it, …) does not apply in times of the urgently needed transport and energy transition, because it is high time to shift passenger transport from fossil-fuelled roads to eco-electric rail. Climate protection can no longer be postponed.
