Siblings Ehn: Wine manufacture in harmony with nature

Nature is seen as a partner and everything is thought through and implemented ecologically down to the last detail. In the best vineyards of the well-known wine-growing region, the arc of manual, natural management spans from pest control that is gentle on beneficial insects to maintenance fertilization for optimally supplied soil and the avoidance of unnecessary tractor trips. Ludwig Ehn is in command of the cellar and considers every step in the creation of the wines of the Langenlois flagship winery. Whether the maturation takes place in wooden barrels or in stainless steel tanks is decided individually. Before that, Sister Michaele uses a targeted strategy to ensure that the harvest in the vineyards is carried out in a targeted manner with optimal degrees of ripeness. As a member of the Austrian Traditional Wineries, everything is done to finely work out the quality of the different locations with the associated grape varieties

The 1. ÖTW vineyards Ried Heiligenstein and Ried Loiserberg are reserved for Riesling, while the other top vineyards Spiegel and Neuberg primarily house the Grüner Veltliner, on top of that the Riede Panzaun covers almost the entire portfolio of the house. The white flagship of the house, alongside the Grüner Veltliner Titan from Riede Spiegel, is the Cuvée Incredibile. The very calcareous mixed soil with loam, loess and sandstone of the Frauenpoint site provides the powerful Chardonnay for this powerful flagship wine, which is allowed to mature for 18 months in small wooden barrels before being bottled in steel tanks after a further aging period. A truly, in the truest sense of the word, incredible monument of a great white wine. But not only the single-variety wines impress the lovers of Ehnwein, the mixed set of the house, at a recent OÖN wine show, particularly convinced the audience and landed in the top places at this hidden tasting. Seven different varieties from the oldest vineyard (Ried Panzaun) are obligatorily harvested by hand and processed together. After fermentation, the young wine is allowed to mature on the fine lees for a few more months and is an enjoyable example of a finely spiced, elegantly full-bodied and multi-layered complex wine.
