The biggest challenges for Argentinean entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs are essential in the country’s economy since small and medium businesses are the main generators of economic growth in Argentina.

More entrepreneurship means greater opportunities for all of society. From job creation and taxes to better solutions available in the market to improve people’s lives.

To undertake is to identify a problem in a niche within that market that perhaps was not being explored or to find our own differential to create a business that offers a solution that meets the needs of our clients.

In the last 20 years, the role of women has grown remarkably in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. There are more and more women who choose to be entrepreneurs to reconcile their personal and professional development. Women who start a business out of economic necessity, driven by the need to “have time” for their private life or in search of self-realization.

However, the data is not so encouraging. The Global Report on the State of Small Businesses indicates that businesses led by women in the country are 10% less likely to be operational or participate in income-generating activities than those run by men.

And it is that being mothers and entrepreneurs is a great challenge, especially in a context where gender inequality does not play in our favor.

Male participation in business is historic and women must pave the way, the famous glass ceiling is not a myth, it is a reality and it shows how much more difficult it is for women to position ourselves in business, facing difficulties that are related to that difference.

Undertaking takes time, requires investment and the help of family members or collaborators is needed to be able to face all our responsibilities and diversify ourselves in our daily activities.

Entrepreneurship from a gender perspective

There are multiple ways of approaching projects but among women there are issues that are common to them just because they are women: the will to be mothers and the decision to care for children, pregnancy and lactation, lack of access to credit and key information to carry out projects.

Entrepreneurship is a frequent job opportunity for many women who are looking for flexible hours that allow them to reconcile work life with family and/or social life, to be “leaders of her life” and “owners of her time”. Even, many undertake in parallel to their employment in a dependency relationship, until they can have confidence in themselves and acquire the income that guarantees stability to leave it. This process is part of the search for financial autonomy.

However, informality and the lack of a strategic action plan can prevent the venture from developing and scaling. On the contrary, 7 out of 10 ventures fail before they are 5 years old and 1 out of 4 do not even reach their first year.

According to a report by the Association of Entrepreneurs of Argentina (ASEA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS), Half of the women undertake their business out of vocation or personal development, while the other half do so out of economic necessity.

One of the biggest challenges for female entrepreneurs is turn your idea or your vocation into a healthy, sustainable and profitable business.

Starting your own business is a “way uphill” It requires planning, projection, long-term vision, constant training but above all, a “entrepreneurial attitude”being proactive and having emotional intelligence to continue despite fears and other limiting beliefs, with which society “loads” us.

The enterprising woman is empowered because she knows that she has the superpower to constantly reinvent herself and transform her life and that of everyone around her. Undertaking from the purpose, knowing why we do what we do allows us to advance firmly towards our vision.

With every decision we make we define our future. It is the most difficult moments that define who we will become. If we are tenacious, the result will be gratifying since we will achieve our objectives.
