The confiscation of the vehicle has proven its worth in other countries. In Austria, however, the motorists’ organizations are worried about which rights of a speeder could be violated as a result. It’s all about property rights.
In Salzburg, a young woman was killed by a speeder. Unfortunate, but property comes first! A few days ago there was a report in the OÖN that a speeder’s car was confiscated and auctioned in Denmark. The speeder had borrowed the car from a friend, who in turn had leased it. So it works there and Denmark will probably also move within the framework of the European legal system.
If something is to be implemented in Austria, one first thinks about why this is not possible, instead of creating the legal basis for solving the problem properly. For those who are very concerned about ownership of such missiles on the streets: You can race without a license without a license, but not without a vehicle. Driver’s license tests will not solve the problem.
