He calls on the youth of Austria, the youth of the world to invest their competence, their abilities, their strength in the development of coping strategies for the future living conditions on our planet. It is no longer a question of achieving the climate targets, let alone by 2035. Of course that has to be tried, now and also by us older people, who are partly to blame for the mess. But what good does hypnotic staring at global warming do? The earth won’t die out in a decade (except through very large catastrophes). But it will become increasingly uncomfortable in this world, everywhere. Here is to start.
What to do with climate refugees? How can you adapt the cooler regions as a habitat for many? What can be done to transfer enough water to where there is not enough? How do we keep the atmosphere livable? These and many more are the true challenges of the 21st century. It is our grandchildren and great-grandchildren who have to deal with it. This requires all intelligence, all diligence, all the efforts of the next generation.
