In the current debate, constructive appeals like that of Prof. Cocca are not often to be found. However, I see his appeal clouded by the smack of reproach that shines through between the lines. Above all, as a non-technical person, the words come easily to him. He speaks from the group of economists, specifically the asset manager. Now it is precisely these who usually help those who are responsible for the greatest climate sins to increase their wealth, be it through factory chimneys, air conditioning systems and other “investments” that blow bad things into the air. But I am assuming that Prof. Cocca will also take his share of the responsibility for the future seriously and urges his clients to invest their assets more sustainably in the future than they do today, including in the promotion of the young researchers they long for. Among the clients of the 50+ generation, those at the helm are those who can achieve more directly and are better connected than the young people addressed in the appeal, who will only have to build up all this over the next few decades.
