Public funding is obviously particularly scarce at the moment. But right now, courageous political decisions are needed to make future-oriented investments in climate protection and thus in the future of our children. A relapse into old models, in which money is hastily pumped into obsolete large-scale construction projects, would be catastrophic and the follow-up costs would probably no longer be bearable. I suspect that Mayor Markus Vogl would like to commemorate bold visions for the future of our beautiful city. Unfortunately, he now has to spoon up the soup of his predecessors when it comes to the budget and represent ancient projects that are completely out of date. The financing of a bypass road for Steyr, the so-called Westspange, will permanently limit the possibilities for positive urban development. At the same time, this completely contradicts the recently published climate protection goals of the city of Steyr (climate protection strategy 2040) and is up for discussion more than ever.
