Hello dear Black Wings fans, dear readers,
I am happy that I can take you with me on my journey back to the ice and of course I will always answer your questions. Feel free to email them to: presse@blackwings.at.
Back to November 1st. The top game against Bozen is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Linz AG Eisarena. Everyone knows that a cracker is inevitable against Bolzano and the hall shook accordingly. In the first third, an opponent fell on my knee and I immediately noticed that something was wrong. After a few tests in the dressing room, it was immediately clear that the evening had gone well for me.
Two days later, an MRI was scheduled, which revealed a tear in the lateral and cruciate ligaments. After that everything happened in quick succession and a few days later I was under the knife for the first time. Everything went perfectly and I was allowed to leave the hospital after a total of six days.
The day after discharge, we immediately started rehab. The goal is for the knee to be free of swelling and mobility restored so I can undergo the 2nd surgery. Lymphatic drainage and physiotherapy were part of the daily program.
At this point I would also like to thank our therapists, who always take a lot of time for my treatments. Thanks to them, I was able to start light training again after just two weeks.
The knee now feels very good again and I train every day, especially to stabilize the knee with the surrounding muscles.
Unfortunately, there are always worse days in the course of healing. Luckily I can spend time with my teammates in the dressing room every day, who always catch me and cheer me up even on the not so good days.
The mood in the dressing room is good, especially after a six-point weekend, which makes everything even easier. The guys are in a great mood and hopefully can take the momentum with them to Italy. It will be two tough tests again, as some players are allowed to play for the national team and the line-up will be thinner as a result. After the last home game before Christmas against Laibach, there is a short but well-deserved break before a very intense league phase awaits us.
I wish you all a contemplative and stress-free Advent season. See you soon and stay healthy
Gerd
