Even if the World Cup final may have been a footballing treat and the excitement couldn’t be surpassed, the overall balance of this major event is sobering: fewer TV viewers than at previous tournaments, many political debates, discussions about values and hardly any World Cup mood. What remains is the realization that the World Cup took place in the wrong place at the wrong time and that FIFA is shamelessly exploiting its international power.
