Argentina, Brazil and Mercosur: is a new era dawning?

At present, Mercosur is nothing more than an imperfect customs union that can strengthen the economy of the member countries, providing block strength, but for that, a common objective must be sought, something that has not been happening for a long time.

The lack of authorizations to import into Argentina is harming Brazil and many Argentine SMEs, causing a lack of inputs in the industries and a lot of discomfort and anger among businessmen on both sides of the border.

In this way, the remedies that are being prescribed to us by dint of more restrictions and controls, not only do not stop the pain, but also deepen the disease.

We need Mercosur to advance and become stronger: Let us be the engines that give it impetus to advance on the path of true integration in all areas: health, migration, and monetary (represented in a currency for transactions between members).

We need the bloc to really be a Common Market as it was intended to be when it was created.

We need infrastructure agreements between countries, more trade and fewer restrictions.

We need to put the bridges and border crossings in good conditions, for example, the Paso de los Libres (Corrientes) and Uruguayana (Brazil) through which the largest number of trucks pass, not only from Brazil but also from Chile and other Mercosur countries.

We need to reactivate the Mercosur-EU agreement. At this point, Lula’s announcement about “zero deforestation” would end the brake applied by France.

Let us hope that this new era brings us more than hope and illusions and that the good relationship between the presidents of Argentina and Brazil serves to build, create and strengthen bilateral and Mercosur ties, fostering new alliances with the rest of the world.
