Is starting a business after 60 an illusion or a solution?

Is starting a business after 60 an illusion or a solution?

Retirement should be a new beginning, a stage of relaxation, and that means closing the book of one chapter to start the next, but with more peace of mind. Unfortunately, that does not happen in our country. The economic pressures, the life tests, the paperwork and the long lines to collect the equivalent of about 160 dollars, leave no room for action, or in other words fill the reality of Retirees with uncertainty and hunger.

And here another dilemma opens: to continue is a “Comfort” zone or to dare to be an entrepreneur?

Big decisions are reached as a result of inspiration or desperation, either of the two is valid to “awaken” the intellect and move to a new level, to fight one more battle. Perhaps the last and definitive one, but the one that will put you in the race again and that challenge is to undertake after 60 years of age.

Keep in mind that we all have a hidden talent, some even a manifest trade with years of experience. The challenge is to discover what the differential is, what is what we like to do and it comes naturally to you and then monetize it.

Some steps to follow:

  • Detect differential and/or talent
  • Putting a name to this talent, if it is simple, better, easy to remember, that is focused on the market niche that we want to reach.
  • That name be registrable on social networks. Remember that technology brings people closer to customers. Today it is vital to be in networks.
  • Make business cards (and it is the only initial monetary investment), with QR Code for WhatsApp (they do it in the printing house or a grandson with 5 minutes of dedication)
  • Brand image: transform that talent or trade into a brand, NOT a product or service, but a BRAND with a corporate image, that will make us unclonable and we will be able to grow by delegating tasks.
  • Create a sales speech: in 20 seconds and from memory we have to say who we are, what company we represent, what experience we have and what our promise to the client is.
  • Clearly define Objectives (small steps can be weeks or months) Goal (longer term, I suggest December 31) and a plan (how we are going to do it). It is recommended to start with three daily contacts, friends, family, neighbors and people we know and know us.

An initial capital is not necessarily required, it is clear that it is very difficult for this to happen in the case of retirees, but you can ask for credit, associate with other people who are in your same situation and each one contribute something to the new business, etc. The greatest capital is experience and finding a way around each situation that arises.

Setting goals in life takes us out of mediocrity and gives us energy to grow again. We must fight hard with limiting thoughts and beliefs. As long as there is life, it is possible and worth fighting for.

There are a lot of dreams to fulfill and many goals to achieve. You have to be encouraged to take the leap.
