We children born in 1937+ went to the school of need. She taught us a lot. We learned to make a virtue out of necessity. A virtue that had many facets. Creativity and imagination on a large scale, care in dealing with what is available, foresight, perseverance and planning, a sense of community, responsibility and much more. We weren’t having fun, we were having fun and we were happy kids and above all, we had lots of dreams. The school of need could be closed – here too the “lost generation” made a major contribution, unfortunately a school of diligence and sustainability was not opened. These graduates would be urgently needed today.
