How many (few) libraries are there? How many (few) parents still read to their children? When our children were small, there was a branch of the city library in every district. Visiting this library was a relaxing “must see”. Our children really enjoyed lingering in the midst of many books. Monday and Wednesday afternoon was lending time and we lugged a few kilos of books back and forth. The hour before going to bed was always reading time for us, sometimes supported by grandpa and grandma or school children who could already read. Books accompanied us everywhere, in the car to cover the travel time, on vacation… – Mickey Mouse books, adventure books, puzzle books, etc.
Reading is an adventure in the head was our motto, the children were often unresponsive because they were so engrossed in the book. The grandparents’ statement may well be true: When it comes to reading books, things used to be much better!
