Thanks to the proven cooperation between companies, AUVA experts and also the labor inspectors (of whom nobody is afraid, by the way), the number of accidents at work has been reduced by more than 50 percent since the 1980s. Occupational safety is consistently high in Upper Austria’s companies, which is also proven by an international comparison: In terms of non-fatal occupational accidents, Austria is below the EU average of 1519 occupational accidents per 100,000 employees. Also, no billions seep away in the AUVA. After accidents at work, this assumes the liability of the companies and finances the accident treatment, rehabilitation and – if necessary – lifelong pensions, which accounts for more than 90 percent of the AUVA budget.
