Linz city center

Free parking is key, even in times of climate change.

In the city center, people are considering banning traffic even more – which is commendable, correct and also sensible – but only very few visitors to the country road are able to reach it on foot or by public transport in a reasonably acceptable time. A tram ride from the south of Linz easily takes 30 to 45 minutes – that’s where I’m in Pasching, Asten, Haid etc.

So, dear politicians, just consider sponsoring the garages in the city center in such a way that they remain/become affordable for the average consumer. During a recent visit to the Moviemento, the parking garage for around three hours cost the same as the cinema ticket. If I had taken the tram, it would have taken me an additional 1.5 hours. And by the way, Linz is not the only city center visitor – how do people from Lichtenberg, Altenberg or St. Florian get to the city? Surprise: by car. With the public transport you need a vacation!

So either, dear politicians of all stripes, either you really create facts for environmentally friendly public transport or you live with the fact that the inner cities are slowly dying – culinary we are already that far.
