Because the prospect of a comfortable state network for recognized refugees and those entitled to subsidiary protection who are entitled to a minimum income of 978 euros per month or including a state subsidy of 1271 euros is a migration motive – or a decisive point in the selection of the destination country.
Especially when in Afghanistan, where most asylum seekers come from, the average income per person is around 1,300 euros – a year, not a month. It’s not because of the weather or the regional cuisine that, for example, Hungary, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia or Romania are avoided and that almost without exception Austria and Germany are migration destinations.
In Denmark and Switzerland, even small assets are taken away from the refugees in order to contribute to the subsistence costs. In addition, if they take up work in Switzerland, they have to give up ten percent of their wages for around ten years. Significantly less cash and more benefits in kind would be at least a start and would result in a pre-selection between war refugees and economic migrants.
Those fleeing from bombs – as in Ukraine – or from Islamic murder brigades can still come. Asylum seekers who have committed criminal offenses are to be deported immediately to their countries of origin or, following the example of Germany and England, to Rwanda. If things continue as they have been, the social safety net will eventually tear and affect society as a whole – including recognized refugees – with effects that are not yet imaginable.
