In the Ukraine war, the USA want that again: a direct confrontation between Germany and Russia. They should ruin each other. This would eliminate Germany and Russia, which are primarily economic world powers, and the USA would be the victors of the war, no matter how it ends.
Aggressive wars, always justified with freedom, democracy, human rights and the like, have been waged again and again by the USA from Vietnam to Iraq to Afghanistan. When the parties eliminated each other, it was the most convenient thing for the US to do to protect its interests.
