Yes, please!

I love candlelit dinners, kitschy table decorations with red hearts, and I love bouquets of flowers. In short: I’m an incorrigible romantic – and I like Valentine’s Day. In addition, love does not live on air alone, but also on small attentions. These don’t have to be physical – a love letter can be more beautiful than all the bouquets put together. And of course you could give yourself presents every day and swear to your love – but you simply don’t do it because everyday life with all its troubles and problems gets in the way. That’s why I celebrate today’s Valentine with all its kitsch, with lots of love and feelings of happiness. The rest of life is serious enough anyway.

CONS

No thank you

Feel free to think I’m unromantic. But: No, I don’t need Valentine’s Day. Now one might argue that it is part of maintaining a relationship to pay attention and to show one’s loved one the due appreciation. Yes, that’s right. But I’m against it: one day isn’t enough anyway if the relationship bobbles along like a sinking boat for the remaining 364 days of the year. It’s like Mother’s Day: One day – no matter how crammed it may be with various attentions and appreciation – is not enough. Therefore: it is better to apply less thickly on this one day, then there will be more left over for the rest of the year.
