Voluntary is too late
If we as a society were to wait until the auto industry voluntarily gave up its extremely lucrative business model of the combustion engine, the planet would probably be four degrees hotter than it is today. We don’t have the time, we need clear political guidelines for climate protection. The development of electric mobility is in progress, the charging points and the power grids are being gradually expanded.
Yes, the mobility transition also requires an energy transition – the e-cars of the next generations could play a role as mobile electricity storage. And it won’t be an emergency stop: Only in twelve years will no new(!) combustion cars be allowed to be registered. Used cars will also be on the road years after 2035.

ban too soon
E-mobility is still young, the first production models came onto the market in 2013: Tesla Model S, Renault Zoe, BMW i3, Nissan Leaf. Admittedly, technical development has been progressing rapidly since then, but it will still not be at the stage by 2035 to be able to replace combustion engines on an equal footing. In terms of range, charging time and charging infrastructure.
Apart from that, the power grid has to be renewed or expanded in order to be able to cope with the new requirements. Key word: fast chargers on busy roads and wall boxes at home. Of course, despite these obstacles, the transformation towards e-mobility is progressing, but we will not be able to do without combustion engines in the middle of the next decade.
