Almost 18 years ago, with my husband, partner and current president of RE/MAX Argentina, Sebastián Sosa, we arrived in this country with the aim of bringing the brand’s innovative business model. In these almost two decades we have been building the vision of a venture, always betting on the project and focused on achieving lasting success.
DEFINE YOURSELF AS AN ENTREPRENEUR
The definition of Entrepreneurship means facing life differently, leaving the comfort and stability of the known, and sometimes even the status quo. To be an entrepreneur, you need to be willing to leave your comfort zone to create something of your own.
From my point of view, an entrepreneur needs to have an ambitious vision to be able to face it with a lot of passion and conviction. The key is not to have a plan B and, in times of crisis, always uphold the project and the commitments made. Adding the right people to be part of the venture is an important factor as well.
KNOW HOW TO HANDLE LINKS
Sometimes, business and personal ties are intertwined: in my case, I decided to start a business with my husband. The key for our common project to come to fruition was that we both shared the same vision. When we had disagreements on how to get there, we realized the importance of being clear about each other’s roles and respecting them, valuing our differences and capitalizing on them.
DEALING WITH FRUSTRATION
The beginnings of an entrepreneur are generally not easy. Everything must be done to get ahead. But this does not have to be a reason for frustration: over time, one can organize to block time, prioritizing the most important tasks, in addition to adding new talent to be able to dedicate themselves to what one is good at.
Dealing with frustration in the face of a failure situation is undoubtedly one of the challenges of all entrepreneurs, but one learns that this lifestyle has many ups and downs and you have to be comfortable with momentary disappointment. Many ventures don’t last because people give up early.
THE VISION: THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
In order not to lose focus on the goal, you have to rely on the vision. In our case, from the beginning we supported the idea that RE/MAX was going to transform the way of doing real estate business in Argentina throughout the country, but this is a philosophy that can be applied to any type of venture so that be successful.
After almost two decades dedicated to entrepreneurship, I understand that a project never stops being challenging. We remain focused on the success of the venture regardless of any resistance or difficulties that the market may bring. In addition, it is necessary to design strategic and tactical objectives, establishing annual goals, and that are sustained over time in the medium and long term, that is, 5 or 10 years from now.
Looking back, when we decided to come to Argentina with RE/MAX we imagined something very big, but we did not consider the number of people who changed their lives by choosing to be part of the network. That gives us enormous satisfaction: being a small part of the achievements of more than 6,500 entrepreneurs who join the network and their families.
These achievements are proof that when you have clear objectives and you work all the time with this in mind and asking yourself as entrepreneurs “how am I going to make it possible”, you can have a successful and lasting venture.
