Thus, during this terrible time, the rather “inappropriate” wine was diluted with water. When soda water was subsequently invented in the 1920s, the birth of the legendary thirst quencher was sealed.
So what makes a good spray? Or to put it another way: is it even possible to make a mistake in the production of the national drink? According to the motto: no matter which wine you take, it’s fine for the splash?
This is exactly the first cardinal mistake that one can make. In principle, it is the case that with every drink that is poured with soda water or that contains a lot of CO², it is exactly the CO² that pushes the aroma of the basic drink intensively. So if you take an inferior wine, not only will the olfactory aroma be abnormal, but the taste sensation on the palate will also be negative. Strongly based on the motto: whether it tastes good or not, the result will be correspondingly bad.
Mistake number 2 from the author’s point of view (not all experts agree on this) is the order of shuffling. First the soda water and then the wine. The latter is heavier than water in terms of specific gravity, so everything mixes better.
The choice of wine also plays a major role. Most connoisseurs in the Danube region and in the West prefer a fresh, fruity Grüner Veltliner that is not too alcohol-heavy (max. 12.5% by volume). In the federal capital, it can also be the mixed sentence, while in the south of our country, welschriesling is used. The Burgundy varieties – especially if they were stored in wooden barrels – are not really suitable for this. The fruity rosé has recently become more and more popular. The sprayed red is also a matter of taste.
Two issues remain: what is the mixing ratio and what is the optimal glass? According to the wine law, the correct mixing ratio for spritzers is always 50:50 with soda water and wine. The summer splash, which is not only very popular in the hot season, should normally have a mixing ratio of 70% water and 30% wine.
When using the optimal glass, flexibility is the order of the day. Style glasses – why not, these are only attacked in terms of style anyway. Although the thick-walled glass with a handle has the advantage that the wine stays fresh longer because of the thick wall and the glass is not constantly touched.
The only thing that remains is that a spritzer made with mineral water is actually called a mixture. Well then, to an enjoyable long drink that is always in season.
