Talentism, the capital of the future

Talentism, the capital of the future

Today we are living in a dizzying moment in history in which global and regional transformations are marking a turbulent transition from a predictable context to an unprecedented space. In this space and at this time, both growth opportunities and threats to the activity of countries, organizations, companies and individuals are taking shape. Exponential technologies, with their frenetic advance, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital money, Internet of Things, intelligent applications, big data, robotics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, synthetic biology, quantum computing , among others, are impacting and generating new business models based more on knowledge than on physical capital, and represent an enormous challenge and an exciting opportunity for the construction of the capitalism of the future, which is estimated to be based on knowledge. “talentism” since the most valuable resource will be talent and knowledge. And it is here where Argentina has an enormous comparative advantage, which is manifested in the individual achievements of so many compatriots but which we have not been able to exploit as a society.

Argentina was founded and developed by great entrepreneurs: immigrants who came to the country from different parts of the world motivated by the search for opportunities, without the necessary resources, but with an enormous capacity for work and effort. Together with the Creoles and the native peoples, they were pioneers in the construction of this Homeland. Thus, entrepreneurial activity was the builder of a modern country and a great engine of upward social mobility.

Today our country is facing a difficult process of deconstruction and reconstruction that is going to require a lot of effort and even sacrifice from its citizens and an honest, clear and firm political leadership towards a future that will definitely put us on the path of progress and prosperity. 50% of the population living in poverty constitutes a real tragedy. Society challenges us, we could almost say that it “cries out” to the business, political, social, intellectual and religious leaders that we find new solutions to return to living in a country of which we are proud and of which our children and grandchildren do not want leave. This crisis should be the hinge point for democracy to give way to the Republic, becoming reliable, under the rule of law and respect for individual, political and economic freedoms. We must once again renew the pact that encourages us to respect the National Constitution, which is a model in the world, with its basic values such as freedom, openness, equal opportunities, respect for the law, for life and for the private property.

I would describe the country as “Bipolar” Argentina where poverty and exclusion coexist with the talent, creativity and work of so many honest and hard-working citizens, entrepreneurs and business and social entrepreneurs who create and develop organizations of people that generate goods. and services for other people, in an innovative, competitive, ethical and sustainable way, generating human, social, environmental and economic impact for society. This bipolarity is also manifested in the opportunities, which are enhanced with these new “technologies of the gods” that, when used well, can generate profound transformations for the good, and on the other, the reality of a submerged country, suffering enormous problems and deficiencies, product of a “paleolithic mentality” and of ideologies and behaviors of the past that are promoted by “medieval institutions”, authoritarian, bureaucratic and often corrupt.

This IAE 2023 Summit invites us to imagine the future, but not as spectators but as protagonists capable of modifying and building it, valuing what unites us as a Nation, what should make us proud, what should drive us to be a great team, what for what is worth working for, and what can give us hope in a better future for all the citizens of this blessed Homeland.
