It’s over

Contrary to what the title would suggest, the answer is yes, unfortunately far too seldom. This doesn’t mean that you have to deny yourself a fast streaming number, but for me: What lies, that pecks. And what rotates catches your ear differently than a playlist, which may have a beginning but seldom has an end, i.e. never: over and over. Any sequence of songs, not put together by the artist, but by the algorithm, I often think to myself: What was he thinking? With thirty-three and a third revolutions per minute, on the other hand, my everyday life slows down, the artist who is on the plate is served because I chose him. Limited in time, with a beginning and an end. And in between enjoyment.

CONS

There from the start

Grimm’s Fairy Tales and EAV – I still have these records at home today. But as adolescence progressed, life rapidly became more digital – I invested in the minidisc transitional technology. An expensive mistake, as Shawn Fanning, the founder of Napster, made clear to me after just a few months. In a way, Napster was the pioneer of music streaming. At that time I also hung on the computer for the first time, downloaded a song – that took what felt like days. The first song was called “No Melody” and it was – what an irony at this point – by Turntablerocker, i.e. the rockers of the turntables.

For me, these turntables were the beginning of the end in terms of record technology. Since then there has been endless digital music enjoyment.
