The population around Göttlesbrunn, who are shaped by winegrowing, lives their own style: Calm, honest, down-to-earth, a bit timeless and not desperately looking for momentary, short-lived successes. Consistency is the order of the day, doing what you stand for. And that is exactly what the Carnuntum winemaker Philipp Grassl stands for.
Together with his family association and motivated employees, Philipp Grassl runs his medium-sized winery in the tranquil Carnuntum wine-growing community of Göttlesbrunn in a typical, local manner.
The basis of his winery is working with the local varieties St. Laurent and Blauer Zweigelt. Whether varietal or perfectly blended variants with the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Syrah to form a cuvée – the goal is a well-rounded taste profile shaped by the terroir. And so that the Göttlesbrunner, who has already been awarded winemaker of the year, does not see too much red (quote from Philipp Grassl), he also devotes himself, not only out of tradition, with a lot of passion to white varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Grüner Veltliner.
As with almost all DAC regions, the wines are presented according to their origin in a way that is easy for consumers to understand. Regional wines (grapes from the Carnuntum area) Local wines, where the grapes come exclusively from Göttlesbrunn and on top of that the vineyard wines, which come from precisely defined locations. As a member of the Austrian traditional wineries, its top wines from the Bärnreiser and Schüttenberg vineyards can be decorated with the Order 1.ÖTW Lage. The flagship Cuvée Bärnreiser combines Blauer Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon into an impressive “long-distance runner”, a top combination of fruit, spice and perfect balance. The Ried Schüttenberg presents itself as a varietal Blauer Zweigelt. If one says that the leading local variety does not necessarily stand for dominance, tension and storage potential, Philipp Grassl refutes this thesis in a perfect manner. And the origin is unmistakably reflected in the taste profile of this premium wine: typical Carnuntum!
