First comes healthy soil, then caring for the vines. From cutting the vines in winter, to tying, breaking out, knitting, green harvesting, selection and harvest: at the Hiedler brothers’ winery, everything is done exclusively by hand. And as described: Healthy soils – free of artificial fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides – are the basic capital for maintaining vital and resilient vines.

Dietmar and Ludwig Hiedler Jr. are exclusively focused on producing authentic and handcrafted wines that express the Kamptal origins. For the two “young winemakers”, the oft-used term “terroir” not only consists of the facts of soil, climate and locations, but also in combination with the philosophy of the winemaker. And for them, manual work is their top priority. The same applies to the development of the wines. There lies the strength in calm to create products that are appreciated by everyone.

The high level of quality begins with the classic wines (Grüner Veltliner Tonmineral or Riesling vom Urgestein), rich, pleasantly typical wines that are characterized by their origin. As a member company of the Austrian Traditional wineries in the premium segment should always have the 1st ÖTW locations of Kittmannsberg, Schenkenbichl and Käferberg (Grüner Veltliner) in mind, as well as of course the top Riesling locations Steinhaus, Gaisberg and Heiligenstein.

The absolute delights of the Hiedler house include those from Ludwig Hiedler Sr. created flagship wines of the Maximum series. Whether Grüner Veltliner, Riesling or Pinot Blanc Maximum – these are late-harvested wines from old vines whose grapes were allowed to enjoy the sun until late autumn. Before these wines are bottled, they lie dormant in barrels on the fine lees for two winters. The result is dense, elegant wines that bear the unmistakable Hiedler signature: pure handcraft – in harmony with nature.
