Big break, please!

In Great Britain, private cell phones are to disappear completely from schools in the future. A good approach that does not involve generally banning the use of smartphones for children and young people. That would actually be completely otherworldly. But an elementary school without cell phones would be very desirable – and certainly sensible. After all, who should it harm to live analogue life for several hours a day, chatting with friends, playing football in the school garden or maybe jumping rubber – and never looking at your cell phone? School as a protected, educationally valuable childhood space with the opportunity to let your own thoughts run free – without Instagram and TikTok.

CONS

balancing act

Digitalization cannot be reversed. Computers, smartphones and all sorts of other devices are here to stay. In view of the rapid development, it would be the wrong approach to try to keep students away from technology. On the contrary: the sooner you start using the equipment correctly, the better. By “correct” we mean that they learn to keep balance. In the balance, the – undoubtedly attractive – possibilities of digital technology weigh heavily. That’s why you should have as much good offline time as possible in the other. Adults are required to make exercise, nature, personal social contacts, self-care and much more attractive to children.
