The route is the goal
It’s a stone’s throw from Schwanenstadt to Oberndorf. Pitzenberg is five kilometers away and the community of Schlatt is around three and a half kilometers away. No long journeys towards a common goal. And that’s exactly what the future will be about. All 438 municipalities in Upper Austria will never have their own kindergarten or playroom. Because many are too small to raise the financial resources for it. But there will be children everywhere who need care. Not because no one wants to take care of them. But because in most cases both parents work and don’t want to put a hamburger from McDonald’s on their children’s table (even if it’s supposedly cheap). This model could be one way.

Barbara Eidenberger
No children’s area
It is well known that small communities have a difficult time with childcare. There is a lack of money and staff. A cross-community play area may be a sensible option for Oberndorf due to the lack of alternatives. But this is not a suitable solution to close the care gap nationwide.
It is no easier to combine parenthood and work when short opening times are accompanied by long travel times.
Woe betide anyone in Upper Austria who dares to think even half aloud about community mergers or less decentralized fire service structures. But with the little ones? We like to centralize because it saves costs. Very revealing in “children’s number one”.
