The CGT joins the campaign for the Pope’s return to Argentina: “Come Francisco, your people are waiting for you”

The return of Pope Francisco to his homeland he beats ever closer. After more than a decade without visiting Argentina, although he did visit all the neighboring countries except Uruguay, the priests of the towns launched last Friday from a mass and festival in Ciudad Evita, of the Buenos Aires party of La Matanza, the campaign “Come Francisco. Your people are waiting for you.”

The love campaign for the return of Jorge Mario Bergoglio It is headed by “Pepe” Di Paola, the emblematic village priest of our times, the most consistent heir of the pioneer, Carlos Mugicamurdered after giving mass on May 11, 1974. In May 2024, it will be 50 years since that crime and in some sectors of the Church they consider it a very special date.

Within the framework of the closing of a cycle of meetings between the union youth of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) and the young people of the town parishes for the 50th anniversary of the murder of Múgica is that this Monday, November 13, in the afternoon, in the legendary Felipe Vallese hall of the CGT at the close of the day of synodal debate of the union leaders and the young people of the Hogares de Cristo is that the general secretaries were photographed together with the village priests holding the Argentine flag in their hands with the phrase “Come Francisco.”

Hector DaerSecretary General of Health and member of the triumvirate that leads the CGTgrabbed the flag between the village priest “Toto” Vedia and Di Paola followed him Julio Piumatosecretary of Human Rights of the labor union and general secretary of judicial workers of the Nation together with his second Maia Volcovinsky and another secretary general, Juan Carlos Schmidthead of the Maritime Port and Naval Industry Federation of the Argentine Republic and member of the board of directors of CGT. Another village priest on stage was Pedro Cannavo from the Ricchiardelli neighborhood in Bajo Flores.

The leaders of the CGT and village priests are imitating the synodal method promoted by the Pope Francisco because unlike the typical events on this day, there was a back and forth between the leaders from the stage who first listened to the proposals and questions of the members of the Hogares de Cristo, the device of the church in the towns intended for the most excluded who fell into addictions.

After the event, a document signed by the three general secretaries of the CGT was issued, Pablo Moyano, of Truckers, and Carlos Acuña, of service stations, plus Piumato and Volcovinsky, where they formally record their support for the campaign “Come Francisco. Your people are waiting for you.”

The original letter sent to the Vatican is transcribed below:

Dear Francisco:

The workers of Argentina join the clamor for your visit to the country. Throughout these years of your pontificate, we have felt your accompaniment and valued your message. We recognize in you the Shepherd with the smell of sheep who does not forget his flock; and we await with hope your presence among us.

On several occasions you have expressed that the word union has a beautiful meaning, since it refers to the task of doing justice together. Our organizations, which extend throughout the country: which bring together colleagues from all branches of work, production and services; that have their roots in the deep history of our country; who have sown our land with struggle and dreams, never abandoned the mandate of promoting Social Justice and the unrestricted defense of the fundamental rights of workers.

We live in difficult times. Your clear teachings and your prophetic gestures are for us a lighthouse that helps us navigate these raging seas, in which many of our brothers and sisters are discarded and the arrogance and greed of the powerful, hate speeches and extreme individualism, which pays no attention to anything, and advances recklessly, even putting at risk the very life of our Common Home.

That is why your presence generates expectation in us and we join the request of so many compatriots: COME FRANCISCO!!!, the workers of the country long for confirmation on this path towards the construction of the Organized Community, so that no person is discarded or disposable, focused on the value of Social Justice, which makes a Just, Free and Sovereign Homeland possible. While we wait for you, we continue praying for you.
