The pilot of the S7 landing in Irkutsk informed the dispatcher about the icing of the liner

The pilot of the S7 Airbus A321 airliner flying from Magadan to Novosibirsk, which urgently landed in Irkutsk, informed the dispatcher about icing. This follows from their negotiations, an excerpt from which is quoted on December 4 by Izvestia.

The pilot received information from the controller that the previous aircraft taking off had reported icing and moderate turbulence up to FL 100.

Further, the Airbus pilot reported problems with the flight and severe icing of the aircraft. The dispatcher dictates to the pilot “to descend to the third, 1100 m”. The pilot complied with the recommendation, and a little later the controller provided information for the approach.

“Siberia, 50220, cleared for entry, lane 10,” the dispatcher says.

It was not possible to land the plane, and the dispatcher recommended to raise the plane to an altitude of 1700 m.

“Maintain 1700m altitude. Follow to the left, dodge to the left. Take the correction to the right, the mountain is in front of you, ”the dispatcher indicated, to which the pilot reported that it was impossible to stabilize the plane.

“We cannot stabilize the plane. We can’t take off … So far we can’t do anything, cope with the plane … ”- answered the pilot.

“If possible, gain echelon 170180, higher for stabilization. The safe altitude in this sector is 2150 m. The minimum safe altitude, ”the dispatcher recommended.

After some time, the pilot reported stabilization of the aircraft, for which the ground recommended a descent to 2300 m. During the landing in Irkutsk, the pilot again notified the aircraft about severe icing.

“Severe icing. Landing position goes out. We are gaining 1500 “, – said the pilot.

The S7 airliner with failed electronics landed in Irkutsk on the morning of December 3. He started having problems with control after the plane was switched to the “direct” autopilot mode. The ship began to sway strongly, and its speed began to fluctuate. The system gave a “stall danger” signal, and also notified about icing of the first and second engines. As a result of the buildup, the plane lost 2.7 thousand meters of height.

Now a special commission is checking what anti-icing agents were used to treat the board. The actions of the pilots will be evaluated.

According to the source, the cause of the incident was probably a combination of factors. At the same time, it is noted that it was possible to avoid the tragedy precisely thanks to the correct actions of the pilot. If not for the proper response of the crew, the aircraft would have crashed in 10 seconds, the source said.

Honored Pilot of Russia Sergei Sytnik, in a conversation with Izvestia, admired the actions of the pilots of the S7 airline, who were able to land a plane with failed electronics in Irkutsk. The specialist emphasized that the pilots of the aircraft were “well done and true heroes” and did everything right.
