Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the new public space “House of Culture” GES-2 “on Bolotnaya Embankment on December 1. The new capital’s cultural space is located in the building of a former power plant that has been in operation for 100 years. It was decommissioned in 2006. Three years later, HPP-2 received the status of a cultural heritage site.

In 2014, Leonid Mikhelson took up the restoration of the architectural monument with a team of experienced specialists. The famous architect Renzo Piano, the author of the Pompidou Center in Paris, was invited to carry out the work. According to Sergei Sobyanin, the center has become the largest project to create a cultural space from an industrial facility.
