To give a numerical designation to the concept of “sea power” researchers from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations. EAT. Primakov Russian Academy of Sciences calculated the index of sea power. It consists of three groups of statistical categories.
The first is resources (areas of sea zones, stocks of useful resources, and so on). The second is the tools that a country needs to seize maritime spaces, establish sovereignty and explore them. The main tool is the navy. This criterion also includes coast and fish guards, research fleet, and so on. The third group of categories is the activities at sea that the country conducts: in addition to economic goals (primarily transport), we are also talking about recreation and sports.
As of January 1, 2021 (an updated version of the index will be published in mid-December), sea power number 1 is the United States, the second is China, Russia closes the top three (moreover, the PRC and the Russian Federation have strengthened their indicators over the pandemic year). Further places in the top ten are distributed as follows: Japan, South Korea, Great Britain, Indonesia, Norway, India and France.
