Russian frigates received anti-aircraft anti-ship missiles

Russian frigates of project 22350 of the “Admiral Gorshkov” type received new opportunities. Now installed on them anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) “Poliment-Redut” will be able to hit simultaneously air and sea targets.

The Navy has already completed a series of tests, where the destruction of surface ships of a mock enemy with the help of an air defense system was practiced. Sources in the military department told Izvestia that they went through several stages over several years and ended at the end of this autumn.

Among others, the frigate of project 22350 “Admiral Gorshkov”, which is part of the Northern Fleet, was involved in them. At a certain stage, missile launches were carried out by the Polyment-Redut air defense system. The frigate’s crew worked out not only the launches of an anti-aircraft guided missile (SAM), but also the algorithm of actions during the delivery of such strikes.

According to sources, all targets were hit and the work was deemed successful. Strikes against naval targets were carried out by several types of anti-aircraft missiles, but their specific names were not disclosed.

Now the standard air defense system of frigates is able not only to shoot down drones, cruise missiles, planes and helicopters, but also to sink corvettes, destroyers and other enemy ships.

The frigate “Admiral Gorshkov” is actively involved in testing new weapons systems. Several Zircon missiles were launched from its side this year. The Ministry of Defense has already reported that at the end of November, he once again successfully fired this missile from the White Sea at a naval target, which was located at a distance of more than 400 km.

Now the Navy has two Project 22350 frigates – Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Kasatonov. In total, the Navy will receive eight such ships.
