Rescuers started evacuating 12 crew members of the Xing Yuan dry cargo ship, which ran aground in Kholmsk, Sakhalin Oblast, on Monday, December 6. This was reported on December 7 by the Sakhalin-Kuriles Telegram channel.
Prior to that, according to the order of the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia in the Sakhalin Region, a group of six rescuers and three pieces of equipment were sent to the place where the ship was grounding.
“Specialists of the Sakhalin Marine Rescue Service will inspect the vessel and develop a plan for further actions. Also, with the improvement of weather conditions for preventive purposes, specialists are planning to install booms, “- said the press service of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations.
As it became known to astv.ru, they plan to evacuate the crew using a cable car. Then, on the shore, the documents of the sailors will be checked by the border guards, after which the foreign crew will be taken to the hotel, where the people will be examined by doctors.
The prosecutor’s office ordered a check on the fact of the incident. According to some reports, the ship is attributed to the African Sierra Leone, although the name is “Chinese ship”. Its crew is engaged in the transportation of dry bulk cargo, REN TV specifies.
Also, on the fact of the incident, the Sakhalin Department of the Investigative Committee conducts a pre-investigation check on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 263 (“Violation of traffic safety rules and operation of railway, air, sea and inland water transport and subway”) and Part 1 of Art. 293 (“Negligence”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, eyewitnesses reported that the ship ran aground in the area of Primorsky Boulevard. According to preliminary data, the ship was anchored in the harbor roadstead, when the crew decided to wean anchor, they did not succeed. The dry cargo ship was carried to the shore: as a result, the ship ran aground 50 m from the port.
