Somnologist named ways of dealing with jet lag

Aleksey Melekhin, PhD in Psychology, somnologist told how to deal with jet lag.

In an interview with the website aif.ru on Tuesday, December 7, the specialist said that today several variants of jet lag can be distinguished – a mismatch between the circadian rhythm of a person and the natural one, caused by a rapid change in time zones.

Typically, jetlag occurs after long flights. It is also felt by doctors and specialists who work at night and in shifts. Social jetlag can occur in people who work five days a week and sleep off on weekends.

Melekhin advised to maintain the same sleep rhythm, reduce the intake of caffeinated drinks, energy drinks. He also urged not to engage in sensory load, exclude daytime sleep, increase physical activity and carefully review your schedule. The somnologist advised to start the weekend at the same time as weekdays. This way the nervous system can avoid stress.

Melekhin also drew attention to the fact that during the pandemic, a new version of the jet lag appeared. Telecommuters stopped going offline, got used to working on the couch and sleeping longer. Experts have yet to study the effect of this jet lag on the human body, writes “Moscow 24”.
