Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Viktor Kress commented on Tuesday, December 7, the idea of limiting the sale of alcohol for the New Year.
“This is unlikely to solve the problem. They will find it all the same. We already went through this in 1985. I believe that the restrictions on the sale that exist now are enough, ”he said in an interview with Life.Ru.
The senator said he did not support this initiative.
Earlier that day, a member of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Sultan Khamzayev expressed the opinion that a restriction on the sale of alcohol should be introduced during the New Year holidays.
The deputy proposed to make all cultural and leisure activities free of charge during the holidays, so that people have something to do with themselves. Khamzaev intends to send the corresponding request to the Ministry of Culture of Russia by the end of the year.
At the same time, the first deputy chairman of the Public Chamber of the Leningrad Region, Vladimir Petrov, on the contrary, proposed selling sparkling wines and champagne without time restrictions on New Year’s and Christmas, reports RT.
As Petrov explained, the offer concerns the sale of low-alcohol sparkling wines and champagne from December 31 to January 1 (New Year’s Eve) and from January 6 to January 7 (Orthodox Christmas celebration).
