In St. Petersburg, the owner of “Rive Gauche”, as well as the co-owner of the Internet retailer “Yulmart” August Meyer and his wife, as well as business partner Inna Meyer, were detained. They are suspected of stealing 2.3 billion rubles from Sberbank, received for business development. This was reported on December 8 by Kommersant.
Meyer and his wife are interrogated as suspects. The case is being investigated for fraud.
The first person involved in the criminal case of embezzlement from Sberbank in 2017 was another co-owner of the company, Dmitry Kostygin. The case against him was later reclassified to a less serious article on causing damage without signs of embezzlement, but the prosecutor’s office subsequently canceled this decision.
Since 2016, Yulmart has been in a state of conflict between Kostygin and August Meyer (owning 61.5%) and Mikhail Vasinkevich (38.5%). Because of this, the once largest online retailer in Russia has actually ceased operations since the beginning of 2020.
Earlier, on November 28, investigators in the Irkutsk region opened a criminal case against employees of the regional branch of the Pension Fund, who are suspected of embezzlement. The case was initiated under the article on fraud. The amount of damage for the regional PFR amounted to more than 600 thousand rubles.
