The state prosecution asks to sentence the two defendants in the case of the murder of the crime boss Vyacheslav Ivankov, known as Yaponchik, to 16 and 17 years in prison, respectively. This was announced on Wednesday, December 8, by the lawyer of one of the accused, Sergei Golyshev.
“During the debate, he asked to appoint my client Murtazi Shadania 16 years in a maximum security colony, and the second accused, Dzhambul Janashia, 17 years in a maximum security colony,” TASS quoted him as saying.
In April, Kakha Gazzaev, an accomplice in the murder of Vyacheslav Ivankov, was found guilty of committing a crime under Art. 105, part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The court established that in 2009 Murtazi Shadania, Dzhambul Dzhanashia, Kakha Gazzayev, as well as Nuzgar Papava and Astamur Butba were involved by Ilya Simonia to commit the murder of Vyacheslav Ivankov. Simonia, Papava and Butba fled from the investigation and were put on the international wanted list.
According to the investigation, a resident of the Moscow region Simonia organized the murder of Yaponchik and attracted several people to commit the crime. The defendants in the case first followed the criminal authority, and then illegally acquired a Dragunov sniper rifle.
For the murder, they chose a place not far from the restaurant visited by Ivankov. On the instructions of Simonia, on July 28, 2009, the perpetrators of the crime arrived at the restaurant and one of them shot at Yaponchik. From his wounds, Ivankov died in the hospital on October 9, 2009.
In May 2013, Izvestia’s sources in the Main Directorate of Criminal Investigation (GUUR) said that in the fall of 2012, the special services noticed activity in the opposing mafia clans. As a result, the united opposition was headed by influential lawyers Dzhemo Mikeladze (Dzhemo) and Rovshan Dzhaniev (Rovshan Lenkoransky). According to those close to Usoyan, it was Rovshan who was behind the murder of Ivankov.
