Please together!
The second Sunday in June would be a good opportunity to cast votes twice in one go: for the European and Austrian Parliaments. For many democratic participants who have become comfortable, a super election Sunday could make a profit that he or she might not otherwise make. We know that Austrians are highly Eurosceptic.
Another argument is the lower costs. The Austrians can also be trusted to process things correctly – the joint state and local council elections in Upper Austria speak for this. In addition, we would be spared a month-long election campaign and we would perhaps have an active government sooner than in the National Council elections in the fall.

Cleanly separated!
The ÖVP and the Greens almost made it, but what shouldn’t be can’t happen. And in Austria this apparently applies to a fully completed legislative period. There is now debate about bringing the election date forward by 16 weeks.
The reason for this is not that the government is no longer making any progress, it is simply a matter of election campaign considerations. Carrying out the two elections in one go may sound practical, but it only benefits those who have little interest in a substantive debate and who see democratic decision-making processes as a nuisance. We shouldn’t fall into this trap. Democracy is worth something – even twice a year.
And what is your opinion about it?
