The approval of the Russian vaccine against COVID-19 “Sputnik V” by the World Health Organization (WHO) will accelerate the recognition of the drug in European states. This was announced on Friday, December 10, by the Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Denis Manturov during the “Made in Russia” forum.
“Of course (will accelerate. – Ed.), If this is accepted by the WHO, everyone is part of this organization, right? Today we sign bilateral agreements with each country on the mutual recognition of the vaccinated in order to ensure greater and better mobility for the citizens of our country, ”the head of the department said.
Earlier, on December 4, WHO announced that it plans to conduct an inspection in Russia to evaluate the Sputnik V drug no earlier than January 2022.
The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev said a day earlier that the Russian vaccine has not yet been approved only for bureaucratic reasons. He stressed that regulators from 71 countries have already approved the use of Sputnik V, and expressed the hope that WHO will follow suit in the near future. Those vaccinated by Sputnik V can visit 31 countries, and after the approval of the vaccine, this number will only increase, Dmitriev said.
In October, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and RDIF are working on the registration of Sputnik V in Europe. According to him, the European Union said that the Russian side had submitted an incomplete set of documents.
Sputnik V was developed by specialists from the Gamaleya Center. It was registered in August 2020 and became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world.
Russian authorities are urging residents to get vaccinated to protect their health and take care of their loved ones. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, as well as Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVac.
