The Ethics Commission of the Council of Judges of Russia pointed out the inadmissibility of using any profanity in official court proceedings. This is stated in the information letter of the commission, published on the official website of the council on December 11.
“The presence of obscene language in the text of a court ruling, let alone foul language as the most vulgar and socially condemned type of profanity, is a direct violation of the requirements of the current legislation,” the document says.
It is specified that the reason for considering this issue was the identification of abusive expressions in one of the arbitration court decisions.
“When using the Russian language as the state language in the Russian Federation, it is not allowed to use words and expressions that do not correspond to the norms of the modern Russian literary language (including foul language), with the exception of foreign words that do not have common analogs in their native language,” the letter says.
The Ethics Commission also emphasized that maintaining the authority of the judiciary, as well as ensuring that judges comply with the requirements of the Code of Judicial Ethics, are one of the main tasks of community bodies.
Earlier, on October 26, it was reported that Roskomnadzor proposed to ban the use of profanity in online cinemas. It was noted that, first of all, this proposal concerns the restrictions established in the part of the legislation of the Russian Federation on the protection of children. In this case, we are talking not only about age marking, but also about certain restrictions, including the use of profanity.
