Scientist lists early signs of dementia

The candidate of biological sciences Semyon Golosheikin on December 12 listed the early signs of dementia.

He recalled that dementia is a syndrome in which a person rapidly loses the ability to think, remember, navigate in space and time.

“Forgetfulness can be a sign of future dementia. In addition to the most noticeable memory impairment, there is a number of moderate cognitive impairments, such as inability to concentrate, planning, and a decrease in the level of abstract thinking, ”the expert at Radio Sputnik quoted as saying.

According to Semyon Golosheikin, now doctors do not yet know effective ways to treat this disease. He announced the need to start its prevention on time.

The scientist claims that learning foreign languages and active communication will help reduce the risk of developing dementia.

“WHO recommends maintaining a moderate level of physical activity, regular training of cognitive skills through games and hobbies that require intensive involvement of memory and logic of thinking,” said Golosheikin.

On December 10, experts from the University of Barcelona conducted a study and found out which diet protects against dementia. A diet rich in plant-based foods has been shown to reduce the risk of cognitive impairment and dementia in older adults, according to scientists.

They concluded that high concentrations of metabolites from cocoa, coffee, mushrooms, red wine, and foods rich in polyphenols – apples, green tea, blueberries, oranges, and other fruits and vegetables – reduced the risk of cognitive impairment.
