Fair rules of the game
The first impression counts – and can be a deterrent: If you are looking for a hotel or restaurant, you will quickly stumble upon a wealth of online reviews. Often the opinions couldn’t be further apart. Anyone who reads about unhygienic conditions and terrible service scrolls quickly.
Whether the rating of “Maxi123” appears serious is of secondary importance: understandably, no one wants to risk food poisoning or a cockroach infestation in the hotel room. Removing false or offensive reviews is a gauntlet for companies. The customer is king, but there are still rules to play: If the protective cloak of the pseudonym falls away, at least the tone will improve.

A great asset
Devastating reviews because the rooms, service or food did not meet expectations. There’s no question about it: online reviews can be damaging to your business.
A real name requirement on the Internet is still the wrong approach: on the one hand, it fails in practical implementation because it could only be implemented with complex authentication.
In addition, free, anonymous expression of opinion is a valuable asset: according to the Supreme Court, it cannot be banned per se. But hoteliers and restaurateurs don’t have to put up with credit-damaging reviews. The legislature has created instruments, such as the right to deletion and the release of user data.
