Almost half of the Russians surveyed had conflict situations with housemates, according to the results of a study conducted by the SberStrakhovanie service and the Rambler & Co. media holding, which is at the disposal of Izvestia.
According to the survey, three quarters of Russians (73%) do not communicate with their neighbors at home, but only greet each other when they meet. At the same time, 18% of respondents noted that they can turn to neighboring apartments for help, and almost every tenth respondent (9%) claims that they visit their neighbors and help them if necessary.
A quarter of the survey participants are familiar with all or almost all of the housemates, another 12% know only those whose apartments are located on the same floor with them. More than half of the respondents know only some of the neighbors at the entrance, another 12% do not know any of them.
“54% noted that they live in peace and harmony with their neighbors. Meanwhile, almost half of Russians (46%) had conflicts with their neighbors at home. About a third of them could not be resolved peacefully, but the majority of respondents hope that this will not happen again in the future, ”analysts said.
Disputes with neighbors arise for various reasons. So, 14% of Russians flooded their neighbors (or they themselves arranged a flood of apartments on the lower floors), while the same number of respondents admitted that they were compensated for the damage during the flood. Noise is another common problem between neighbors: 15% of Russians were bothered by loud noises at night or on weekends, and one in five managed to convince neighbors to stop making noise. In general, a quarter of the respondents did not succeed in resolving the conflict the first time, and more than a third (37%) did not succeed at all, and every tenth had to call the police or go to court.
Denis Kuzmin, director of the Security Products and Services division of Sberbank, notes that most Russians do not know how to protect themselves and their apartment from conflicts with neighbors. According to him, the most effective way of protection is to insure your apartment in order to avoid both financial and emotional costs in case of possible troubles.
In October, Zhanna Kolesnikova, head of the commercial practice of the law firm Pleshakov, Ushkalov and Partners, told Izvestia that owners may lose their homes for persistent and prolonged violations of the rules of residence, but this happens quite rarely. Such cases may include refusal to bring an illegally rescheduled room to its original form or for keeping a large number of pets in an apartment if this leads to its clutter and disturbs neighbors.
