Forces of the Black Sea Fleet are watching the French frigate “Auvergne” in the Black Sea. This was announced on Tuesday, December 14, at the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation.
“The forces and means of the Black Sea Fleet have begun to control the actions of the Auvergne guided missile frigate of the French Navy, which entered the Black Sea,” the message says.
On December 8, Russian Su-27 fighters escorted French Rafale and Mirage-2000 military aircraft in the skies over the Black Sea. After the turn of the foreign military aircraft, the Russian fighters returned to the home airfield.
Earlier, on November 30, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Federation is concerned about military exercises, including unplanned ones, near its borders. The President noted that bombers flew 20 km from the border, carrying high-precision weapons, and possibly nuclear ones.
On November 21, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that NATO should stop provocative activities near the Russian borders in order to find a way out of the current tense situation in relations between the Russian Federation and the West. He added that under the guise of the alliance’s exercises in the Black Sea, Ukraine is most likely seeking another attempt to start a military solution to its internal problem.
On November 13, Putin announced that an unplanned US exercise in the Black Sea was a serious challenge for Russia. He said that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation had a proposal to also conduct its own unplanned exercises, but Putin considered it inappropriate.
Earlier, on November 11, Senator from Crimea Olga Kovitidi said that Russia is ready to neutralize any provocations in the Black Sea region. She emphasized that an extensive combat-ready grouping of ground forces and the Black Sea Fleet was deployed on the peninsula, capable of repelling the Armed Forces of both the United States and its allies.
