Human rights activist announced a new archive of information about torture in colonies

Human rights activist Vladimir Osechkin on Tuesday evening, December 14, announced the emergence of a new archive of video recordings of torture in Russian colonies and prisons. The informant, along with the data, left the territory of Russia.

According to the activist, the 200 GB archive may contain records made in different regions of Russia, writes RBC. In particular, videos made in Krasnoyarsk (for 2016–2019), Transbaikalia and Primorsky Krai.

Osechkin also clarified that the informant flew to France.

Earlier, on November 26, the court detained Sergei Maltsev, ex-head of the security department of the regional tuberculosis hospital (OTB) No. 1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Saratov Region, on charges of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 33 – clause “a”, part 2 of Art. 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Organization of violent acts of a sexual nature committed by a group of persons”). The defendant will remain in custody until January 25.

The second defendant in the criminal case is the former head of Maltsev, the former head of the regional tuberculosis hospital (OTB) No. 1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Saratov Region, Pavel Gatsenko. He was arrested the same day.

On November 19, the commission of the central office of the Federal Penitentiary Service announced the commenced inspection in the institutions of the department in the Saratov region.

Earlier, on November 10, 18 employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Saratov Region were fired. According to the Acting Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Saratov Region, Anton Efarkin, five criminal cases have been initiated, 11 people have been brought to disciplinary responsibility.

Earlier, on October 5, it was reported that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation organized an inspection after the appearance in the media of reports of violence against a prisoner in a prison hospital in the Saratov region.
