Criminal case opened over fatal traffic accident in St. Petersburg

A criminal case has been opened over the fatal accident in St. Petersburg. This was announced on Thursday, December 16, in the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

The alleged culprit of the accident was detained.

“A criminal case was opened against him under Part 4 of Art. 264 (“Violation of the rules of the road and operation of vehicles, committed by a person in a state of intoxication”) “, – the portal MR7.ru informs.

The maximum term of imprisonment under this article is 12 years.

The accident happened on the evening of December 15th. The driver of the Volkswagen Polo at high speed flew into pedestrians crossing the road at the green light. As a result of the accident, one person died on the spot, the second victim is in a coma. According to eyewitnesses of the incident, the suspect made an attempt to escape from the scene of the accident. Presumably, the man was very drunk, his identity has been established. In addition, it became known that he repeatedly violated traffic rules.

A video of the driver’s arrest has appeared at the disposal of Izvestia. It shows how a man resists the traffic police, but the police manage to twist the offender and put him on the hood.
