Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government by June 1 to submit proposals for legislative changes that would allow citizens to object to the processing of their personal data. It is specified that the government, together with the Bank of Russia, was instructed to prepare proposals “on amending the legislation of the Russian Federation, in accordance with which individuals in certain cases will be given the opportunity to dispose of information contained in information systems about their business operations, including personal data, and also object to the processing of such information. “

The Russian leader also instructed to accelerate the development of amendments allowing companies in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) to access databases of depersonalized personal data of citizens. The order must be completed by March 1, 2022.

It is necessary to study the possibilities for the development of additional regulatory measures in this area, the head of state specified. According to him, it is also necessary to “put things in order” in the issue of surveillance of Russians, which is conducted by Internet platforms.

Earlier, on June 11, Putin signed a law increasing the fines to 50 thousand rubles for the disclosure of personal data. A lot of different data falls under this definition, in particular, commercial or bank secrets or communication secrets.
