40 – 80 – 110
Higher speed limits are an easy way to stimulate baser instincts. Blue transport ministers have always known this. Votes are so easy to generate. Deadly danger potential too.
Higher speed limits – including the current ones – require braking distances that are simply too long. That’s why a line should finally be drawn under this annoying discussion and the speed limit should be reduced. The fact that speeding is a trivial offense in the country is shown by the record number of speeding violations published by the Interior Ministry on Thursday. 40 – 80 – 110. That would be a compromise that would save people’s lives. There are good examples of 40 km/h speed limits in town. Warm greetings to Gmunden!

More than numbers
Traffic needs rules and speed limits. But when driving a car, the word with “H” is just as important, which is unfortunately overused, but definitely has its place when it comes to road safety.
Yes, I mean common sense and therefore adapting the speed to the circumstances. It is inconsiderate to drive at 100 km/h on the icy road even though it would be legal, or to insist on the “50 speed” in the city regardless of the number of pedestrians.
Drivers must be able to correctly assess the conditions and recognize the dangers. This is often where the problem lies. Therefore, this knowledge should be sharpened before speed limits are tightened.
