The police found the carcass of a dead elk near the village of Verkhniy Yaman, Omsk Region. A local businessman was suspected of the crime, REN TV reported on December 17.
The animal was found on November 2. The businessman is a friend of the convicted former vice-governor Yuri Hamburg. The official is currently serving a sentence for distributing land to his close friends at a low cost.
The police seized a hunting rifle and an animal’s skin from the suspect. As part of the pre-investigation check, law enforcement officers ordered a ballistic examination.
The amount of damage was estimated at 80 thousand rubles.
On October 29, the Committee for Hunting and Fisheries of the Saratov Region filed a complaint with the police against the State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Valery Rashkin on suspicion of illegal hunting. On November 19, the parliamentarian admitted that he had shot a moose, stating that he had allegedly confused the animal with a wild boar in poor visibility using a thermal imager.
According to the politician, he does not shy away from interrogations and is ready to testify to the investigation. On November 22, the deputy admitted that he was hunting in the forest illegally, and also noted that he had not checked whether there was a hunting permit.
On November 25, a member of the Communist Party faction was deprived of his parliamentary immunity. 345 people voted for, 54 against, one abstained. The State Duma also agreed to initiate a criminal case against Rashkin.
