Russian businessman was extradited from Switzerland to the USA

Russian businessman Vladislav Klyushin, who has been under arrest in Switzerland since March, was extradited to the United States, as reported by the Swiss Ministry of Justice on Saturday, December 18.

The department clarified that the entrepreneur was handed over to the American police in Zurich, who accompanied him on his flight to the United States.

On December 17, the Swiss Supreme Court rejected the latest appeal by the Russian businessman’s lawyers, who were trying to block his extradition to the United States, claiming that he was the victim of a US political campaign.

On December 13, a regular meeting took place, which the lawyers lost – the Swiss Federal Criminal Court upheld the decision to extradite the Russian citizen to the United States.

On the same day, the court said that it saw no signs of political overtones in the case against Klyushin, who was arrested in Switzerland at the request of the United States. The businessman himself denies the accusations made in the Massachusetts court that he and his accomplices allegedly earned tens of millions of dollars by hacking confidential information on US listed companies.

In March 2021, the businessman was arrested by the Swiss police at the request of Washington during a family vacation in the ski resort of Zermatt, where he was accused of insider trading.

Vladislav Klyushin owns the M13 company. Its main product is a media and social media monitoring system called Katyusha. The website says that it is used by the presidential administration, government and other federal and regional departments. The essence of the service is that officials in real time can track the reaction of the press and Internet users to their actions.

The Swiss Federal Office of Justice in August rejected Russia’s request to extradite the businessman to his homeland.
